You don't need to Forge the engine for Stage I cams, only Stage II and III.

JWR ran Stage I cams in there old car, making just over 400HP. Forge is only worth it if chasing 500+ in my opinion and you won't get that out of the Mondeo engine anyway without major ECU work, which no one has done.

You are correct that you dont have to retune or forge for stage one cams but generally it isnt done unless chasing big power. IMO stage 1 just arent worth it as the mid range is solid anyway and I am impying that it's not one of the first things you do for power gains.

I suspect more aggressive cams help with getting heat from the chambers due to extra valve overlap.
I swear I can hear a slight cammy lope in the idle of my RS engine that wasn't present with the original XR5 engine.

Ductile steel liner system, similar to darton materials but installed like stock liners.

Here's some pics of mine (Evilbert engine) with Darton liners. This was all done by JHH Performance Engineering back in 2010 who do some great work. I've known John Hill who started it for some time (although he's been retired a while now) as he did the engines in the Group A Corolla we took to Bathurst in '93. They made a custom torque plate for the machining work and drilled the Darton liners to help with cylinder cooling.

It's about to all come apart for a refresh so I guess we'll see what 5000km of pretty hard use looks like.

Block bored/honed ready to accept the liners

This week it's an RS MK2, next week hopefully the same but with S40 and Kuga DNA.
Just hope I live long enough to finish the build!

I reckon I'll end up keeping my old engine just in case  :D

There's no way I'll have the RS engine carved up unless it's broken or worn.

Chadstone Ford i believe have done some.  You could try Berry Motor Group in Mitchum too. They are Volvo specialists and know the 5 pot engine very well.

Swedish Prestige in Huntingdale did at least one. Im not sure how much, but it shall be as much as for head gasket change.

Well to me they sound resonable. Clutch install i been quoted $800 so its on pair with common prices. While Barry guys told me about 4k for block mod... that is why im interested to hear what quotes does stonerz get.

I had a lot of work done there to the S60R. Not complaining about the quality of the work, it was top notch.  Cost me $7k.  When I showed the invoice to Mark at Berry's, he said they could have done it for $1500 less. (i know him from Volvo groups i am in and the car was previously his from a few years back).
